True nat!
Why you frontin’?
Fo real do!
Check yo self b4 you wreck yo self…
Those are just a few of the wonderful urban slang sayings that I have heard and used myself. In fact, those are probably some of my favorite slang sayings. Why? Because they challenge us to take an honest look at where we are really at in life. As John Mayer says in one of his songs, “Am I living it right?”
Are we behaving one way with our parents and another way with our friends?
Are we speaking on way at church and another way in a text?
How do we act when we think no one is looking?
Are we being 2-faced, hypocritical, fake, or phony?
These are all questions we should ask ourselves regularly. Jesus spoke about this subject to some very religious people of his day. He told these religious people (in the South we’d probably call them, “good, church goin’ folk”) that they honored God with their lips but their hearts were far from God. He also said that they were like shiny graves . . . nice and polished on the outside but full of rotting, stinking, nasty decay on the inside!
How about you today? Are you keeping it real in your faith for Jesus Christ? Is HE who defines, leads, and guides you daily? Or is your faith shallow, fake, and just a nice outward appearance to cover up your pain, shame, and evil desires?
Know that wherever you are today Jesus loves you perfectly. For REAL! His arms are open wide to you and He will help purify your heart and breathe life into your faith again!
Keepin’ it REAL because of HIS grace and luv,
A-Dog
(aka Pastor Anthony- sorry I couldn’t resist a little more urban slang)
p.s. I’d love to hear what you think about this. Hollaback!
